Bibimbap (비빔밥) is a classic Korean dish that translates to "mixed rice." It consists of a bowl of warm white rice topped with an array of individually prepared vegetables, meat (usually beef), and a sunny-side-up fried egg. The dish is served with gochujang (Korean chili pepper paste) sauce, which adds a spicy and savory flavor.
Ingredients:
Rice:
3 cups of steamed white rice
Vegetables:
250 grams of spinach
350 grams of bean sprouts
100 grams of shiitake mushrooms
120 grams of carrots
1 cucumber, cut into matchsticks
Meat:
100 grams of beef (minced or thinly sliced)
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 tablespoons sesame oil
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 ¼ teaspoons minced garlic
Egg:
3 eggs (sunny-side-up)
Sauce:
2 tablespoons gochujang (Korean chili pepper paste)
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
1 teaspoon vinegar (apple vinegar)
Others:
Some cooking oil (for cooking the meat, mushrooms, carrots, and eggs)
Some toasted seasoned seaweed (shredded, long thin cut)
Instructions:
1. Cook the rice and set it aside.
2. Prepare and cook the vegetables separately:
Blanch the spinach and bean sprouts, then season with a bit of salt and sesame oil.
Sauté the shiitake mushrooms and carrots with a bit of oil and salt.
3. Cook the meat:
Marinate the beef with soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, and minced garlic.
Sauté the marinated beef until fully cooked.
4. Fry the eggs sunny-side-up.
5. Assemble the bowl:
Place the rice at the bottom.
Arrange the vegetables and meat on top.
Add the fried egg.
6. Prepare the sauce:
Mix gochujang, sugar, water, toasted sesame seeds, and vinegar.
7. Drizzle with gochujang sauce and mix everything together before eating.
